Had a fantastic time staying at The King's Arms while we explored Dorset. Very friendly, helpful and professional staff. Great food and drink. We had a huge room that was an upgrade from what we originally booked, which was perfect for us as we had 2 dogs with us. Tastefully decorated throughout the hotel and in a central location in Dorchester. Would highly recommend.
We stayed at the Kings Arms for 2 nights and it was excellent. We stayed in a Snug room which was very well furnished and we enjoyed the little touches, like fresh milk in the room. There was a wide choice at breakfast and the full breakfast was delicious and beautifully presented. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant one of the evenings which was a good choice, The bar was also comfortable. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Just had a 2 night stay here with family for our Christmas get together. Everything was excellent, service, food, accommodation. Staff very helpful and attentive. Great location for local visits and historical events.
Always a pleasure to return here. Clean, comfortable rooms, full of quirky character; friendly atmosphere, helpful staff, great restaurant, welcoming bar. An absolute favourite.
Location: 60/100. The hotel is located in a little town along the main street. There is quite a good parking inside the property, protected and open. The street, as usually in England, is very quiet despite being in the centre. However, you are not in front of the isle of Capri or or the Big Ben and the sight is the one you can have in a little town like Dorchester (prices should follow, accordingly...)
Service: 90/100 Very friendly, efficient and polite. Young, polite, smiling female and male waiters.
Room: 80/100 Quite well furnished and relatively spacious, compared to the (poor, very sorry to say) English standard. Very comfortable bed, and modern, stylish bathroom. Bed light could be better and more powerful if you want to read. View to the parking, not the best possible one, but okay.
Dinner: 80/100 Could have been higher given the good quality of the food, the very nice, warm dining room and especially the friendly and polite staff serving the food, but the variety of the choices is not the best seen and especially the list of wine is disappointing (cheap, low level, low value for money)
Breakfast: 75/100 Same discourse as before: compared to the European standard breakfast is quite disappointing, compared to the English standard is in the top half. Few croissants, of good quality, no fresh juices (or at least, they seem to be of supermarket's quality), well prepared fresh egg, bacon, etc, standard level of marmelade and jam (could be improved).
Price: 60/100 too expensive, considering the location
Final verdict: 74/100 (equivalent to four stars)
This is a very stylish and comfortable hotel. The staff were all attentive and friendly. We were here on a B and B rate and the breakfast was delicious. I had the vegetarian and my husband had the full English.
From here we visited Sherbourne and Cerne Abbas.
2 nights at The Kings Arms wasn't enough! This beautifully renovated hotel in the heart of Dorchester is a delight to stay at. Our room was excellent size with a large bathroom, very comfortable bed and 4 chairs. The only issue is that there are almost no draws to put ,clothes in - which is a pity, however everything else about the room was very good quality and we'd happily stay in it again. The main bar is cosy despite being quite large, looks great and has a very pleasant atmosphere with a good mix of guest. locals. We ate in the restaurant one evening and again for sunday lunch (and our breakfasts) and the service was very attentive but also relaxed, & the food was extremely tasty, modern and enjoyable.
This is a very well run hotel and we will hopefully be back sometime soon.
Wonderful service in this lovely hotel. Food is amazing. Dog friendly. My only personal critique is that , for me , the colour scheme is too dark and the lighting equally so, but it would not stop me from visiting again.
